How Hypnotherapy Can Help You

I am Helen and I am a local Hypnotherapist based here in Norton, Malton. I have been helping people like you for over a dozen years now. People often come from Scarborough, York and further afield via Zoom. Most of the people who come to see me are recommended from someobody else which I am so grateful for.
This is totally understandable. There is a lot of ‘trust’ in the work we Hypnotherapists do for obvious reasons, we are working with peoples’ subconscious mind after all. I want to tell you more about what I can help you with and get rid of a few myths along the way.
The first myth is we can’t make you do anything you don’t want to do. That’s really important to know and its true. The old Stage Hypnotists’ shows, (for those of us old enough to remember them!) linger and while they have their place as entertainment, what I do is all about helping you to feel better, faster and changing limiting beliefs and habits long term.
So what can Hypnotherapy help with?
It is a whole lot more than most people think. It’s definitely not just about Stopping Smoking (another myth)or perhaps misconception. It tends to be helping people Stop Vaping these days and if you are ready, Hypnotherapy is a great way to stop what, for some, starts of lowe key and then ramps up to become a very intense and often overwhelming habit.
In Hypnosis we regularly use metaphors and asking a Hypnotherapist if they help people Stop Smoking is a bit like asking Tesco/Asda/Sainsburys if they sell milk! The answer is a resounding ‘yes’ of course in both cases but so much more than that. The range of issues Hypnosis can help with is as varied as products in your local supermarket.
Hypnosis is evidence based too for the more scientific amongst you. It was Doctors such as James Braid a Scottish Surgeon who pionneered its use in the 1800’s using it to carry out operations without anaesthetic. Today the NHS use Hypnosis for patients with IBS and childbirth amongst other things. There have been recent medical studies confirming its help alleviating the symptoms of Menopause.
There is also much scientific evidence showing long term weight loss and maintenance is much more successful if Hypnosis is used. I met a woman just recently who was proud to tell me she has maintained her target weight easily, which was plain to see too. She came to see me over a decade ago.
I’ve helped many people overcome phobias over the years from fear of injections, medical procedures, childbirth, birds and the very common one of spiders. This is always rewarding but particularly when a young person makes the change as it ‘nips it in the bud’ and stops them experiencing years, if not decades of the same unpleasant reactions.
The range of issues is as different as the amazing people who come to see me. From helping people manage conditions and reduce the pain and emotional impact of Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis and Cancer to helping people navigate a divorce or death of a loved one.
Space for people to talk honestly and openly and be heard I’ve found is really benecial for many people. Even people with a strong support system can benefit from someone outside of their network. I always make sure has time people have the time and space to do this if it will help them.
This year in particular, helping people to reduce their weight and maintain their weight loss after using other methods such as weight loss injections and/or reduce their alcohol intake. Both of these are so liberating and life changing and I love helping people not only achieve these with the power of their own minds but also realise they can easily maintain and enjoy this new way of life long term. The maintenance part is often the missing piece of the puzzle with other approaches and where Hypnosis helps where other ways don’t always help.
